Why Spravato?
Esketamine's History:

Esketamine, the active ingredient in Spravato, was first synthesized in the 1960s as a derivative of ketamine, a well-known anesthetic. While ketamine was initially used primarily as an anesthetic, researchers later discovered its antidepressant properties.

Key milestones in the history of esketamine:
-
1962: Esketamine was first synthesized.
-
1970s: Ketamine (a racemic mixture of esketamine and arketamine) gained widespread use as an anesthetic.
-
1997: Esketamine was approved for medical use as an anesthetic in Germany.
-
2000s: Research began exploring esketamine's potential as a rapid-acting antidepressant.
-
2019: The FDA approved Spravato® (esketamine) for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression.
