Psychiatric Evaluation
The first step in establishing care and developing a therapeutic relationship involves a complete psychiatric evaluation. The evaluation aims to understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and generally get to know who you are and your goals.

This appointment is 90 minutes. We discuss your personal history and reason for seeking care, current life stressors and establish a treatment plan based on your individual needs
Behavioral health is a connection between behaviors and the health and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. Behavioral health informs our mental and physical health. While there is no single cause for mental health issues, according to the CDC, contributing factors include childhood experiences, biological/genetic factors, loneliness or isolation, and maladaptive coping strategies like using drugs or alcohol.
A psychiatric evaluation is an interview for clinical purposes where we will get to know each other. The evaluation process helps develop a treatment plan for those experiencing symptoms interfering with daily living. After the initial meeting, together we form a strategy.
A 90-minute psychiatric evaluation allows for a more thorough and comprehensive evaluation, which can lead to more accurate diagnoses, effective treatment plans, and improved patient outcomes.
Reasons for a Psychiatric Evaluation

Personal Reasons:
-
Persistent mental health symptoms: These might include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or other conditions.
-
Difficulty coping with life stressors: Significant life events, such as job loss, bereavement, or relationship difficulties, can trigger mental health issues.
-
Substance abuse or addiction: A history of substance abuse may require a psychiatric evaluation to assess for underlying mental health conditions.
-
Changes in mood or behavior: Sudden or significant changes in mood, behavior, or thought patterns may warrant a psychiatric evaluation.
-
Self-harm or suicidal thoughts: If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, a psychiatric evaluation is crucial.

Legal or Medical Reasons:
-
Court order: A judge may order a psychiatric evaluation as part of a legal proceeding, such as a criminal case or child custody dispute.
-
Insurance requirements: Some insurance providers may require a psychiatric evaluation before approving certain treatments or medications.
-
Medical necessity: A physician may refer you for a psychiatric evaluation if they suspect an underlying mental health condition that may be contributing to physical symptoms.

If you or someone you know is experiencing mental health concerns, it's important to seek professional help. A psychiatric evaluation can provide valuable insights into your mental health, leading to appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
